Helping Rescue Dogs at Christmas

Christmas is the time for giving, and while it’s the time of year that you’re most likely to feel the pinch, it’s also the time of year that we’re most charitable. If you’re on this website, it’s likely that you’re already giving a wonderful home to a dog, but not all dogs are so lucky. There are a number of great dog charities based in Sheffield that need your help at this time of year, whether you can spare some treats, toys, blankets, or even your time to help out with walks etc.

Here are a few ways you can help out:

  • Donate money
Like most charities, you’ll find a link on their website for details on how to donate whatever you can afford
  • Donate toys, treats, blankets, leads/collars etc.
Local rescue centres are always looking for toys and treats to brighten up a rescue dogs day, as well as vital accessories such as blankets, beds, etc.
  • Give your time
Some rescue centres are grateful for your time to walk the dogs, or help out at the centre. It’s worth contacting your chosen centre to see if this is an option.
  • Sponsor a dog
The opportunity to donate on a regular basis via a dog sponsorship is also an option.
  • Adopt
The greatest gift of all is to give a rescue dog a forever home. With Christmas being close, the temptation may be there to buy a puppy for a loved one. Taking on any dog is a huge undertaking, and there are so many great dogs in rescues just waiting for somebody to take them in.

If you’re in a position to help out, then here are some local dog rescue centres and charities in the Sheffield area to get involved with:
